Introduction To Our Work

Welcome to Igati Community, a vibrant collective founded by social entrepreneurs and missionaries from Meru County, inspired by the commission of our Lord Jesus Christ to spread light and flavor throughout the world. In the face of daunting social and economic challenges such as economic downturns, climate change, conflict, pandemics, and governance issues, we stand as beacons of hope and agents of change. Our mission is to enrich and preserve a generation by infusing it with the transformative power of faith, entrepreneurship, and community action.

Our journey began with Alfred Gitonga, a visionary entrepreneur whose own trials led him to a profound realization: true wealth lies not in personal gain, but in uplifting others. Guided by the biblical principle of being the salt and light of the world, we harness our God-given gifts and talents to create positive change. As we embark on this divine mandate, we carry with us the conviction that every individual, regardless of background or circumstance, is destined for greatness in Christ Jesus.

At Igati Community, we believe in the inherent prosperity and abundant life promised to all who embrace their divine calling. Join us on this journey of hope, determination, and unwavering faith as we strive to fulfill our collective destiny and leave a lasting impact on generations to come. Together, we can create a world where every child of God thrives and flourishes.

Following the reception of the divine mandate, Alfred sought blessings from his community elders, church leaders, family, and friends, inclu, ding the revered Njuri Ncheke in Meru. By June 2023, Igati Mission took its first steps in Nkomo ward, Tigania West constituency, Meru County. Initially met with skepticism, our persistence and dedication gradually began to resonate with the community.

Recognizing the need for a shift in strategy, we transitioned from door-to-door outreach to community engagement sessions. This shift proved pivotal as community members started to grasp the practicality and potential benefits of our ideas. To focus our efforts and foster economic transformation, we introduced the Igati Agribiz Cluster Model, an innovative approach to farming and entrepreneurship.

Through extensive discussions with community leaders, we identified various clusters such as beekeeping, rabbit farming, herbs and spices cultivation, sunflower farming, talent development, and SME incubation. To ensure sustainable implementation, we registered non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations, and self-help groups, establishing robust governance structures with clear objectives centered on poverty eradication.

As we approach our one-year milestone in june 2024, we reflect with gratitude on God’s faithfulness throughout our journey. Every success and milestone achieved is a testament to His guidance and provision. With hearts full of thanksgiving, we continue to press forward, committed to fulfilling our mission for the honor and glory of our Creator.

The birth of the Igati Agribiz Cluster Models marked a turning point in our mission, beginning with the Beekeeping Cluster. As we delved into the rich history of Meru County, we discovered that our forefathers referred to the land as the “Land of Honey and Milk,” a testament to God’s abundant provision. Inspired by this legacy, we saw an opportunity to revitalize honey production in the region.

On October 2nd, 2023, Alfred, alongside a local carpenter, crafted the first Langstroth beehive sourced from the internet. This marked the inception of our journey into beekeeping in Meru County. In less than four months, our community has witnessed remarkable progress, with over 1000 beehives established and still growing. We are grateful for God’s blessings and the resources that have enabled us to demonstrate the transformative power of social entrepreneurship.

Despite tough economic challenges, our members remain steadfast in their determination to produce the first jar of 100% organic honey in the market. However, they face numerous obstacles in acquiring beehives, beekeeping equipment, and the necessary knowledge for sustainable beekeeping practices. We recognize that collaboration and support from partners like you can significantly alleviate poverty in our communities through beekeeping initiatives. Together, we can empower individuals and communities to thrive and prosper.

The success of the beekeeping cluster within the Igati community has sparked significant interest among entrepreneurs from Meru County and the Mt. Kenya region. They are now keen to participate in our other programs, including rabbit keeping, sunflower farming, herbs and spices farming, talent nurturing, and SMEs incubation.

This growing interest underscores the impact and viability of our initiatives in fostering social entrepreneurship. We believe that by spreading the gospel of social entrepreneurship, we can alleviate poverty and create a better world for all. No one, created in the image of God, should endure poverty when our Heavenly Father has provided us with abundant resources.

We invite donors, partners, and individuals of goodwill to support the Igati missionaries in reaching more communities and spreading the message of social entrepreneurship. Together, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of many. Feel free to explore our work pages and learn more about our initiatives through the links provided on our website.
