The Igati Community is a vibrant assembly of individuals unified by a shared vision of social and economic transformation. Rooted in their identity as patriots, believers, and hardworking innovators, members of the Igati Community are inspired by a calling to be the “light and salt of the earth,” redeemed by Christ Jesus to make a positive impact in their society. The name “Igati,” which means “salt” in the Kimeru language, symbolizes their role in bringing preservation, flavor, and value to the world around them.

The community’s journey began with Igati Mission, which envisioned the Igati Agribiz Cluster Models as catalysts for meaningful socioeconomic transformation in Meru County. Through these models, the Igati Community encourages individuals to leverage their skills and resources for shared prosperity. As members saw the impact of collective action, they realized the need to form a community of purpose, a movement where each individual contributes to a larger vision of economic empowerment and environmental stewardship.

The Igati Community’s pioneering initiative started with a beekeeping cluster. In this model, individuals committed to purchasing a minimum of two beehives and joined bee farmers’ societies established by the community’s patron. This approach allowed new members to step into social entrepreneurship with a clear, accessible entry point. Each new beekeeper was welcomed as a valued contributor, creating a thriving movement where membership continues to grow as more people are inspired to join. Through the beekeeping cluster, the community demonstrates the power of working together to fight poverty, create jobs, promote food security, and protect the environment.

As it expands, the Igati Community aims to create a strong, common brand that represents all its agricultural innovations, including sunflower farming, piggery, poultry, herbs, spices, and other target agribiz clusters. The community envisions itself as a hub of agricultural innovation, showing Meru and beyond how local resources and collective effort can fuel sustainable development.
