Founder’s Story

Our Story Begins

Every great movement begins with one bold dreamer, and for The Igati Community, that dreamer is Mr. Alfred Gitonga. A passionate entrepreneur, community builder, and faith-driven visionary, Alfred’s life is a living testimony of what it means to turn ordinary beginnings into extraordinary impact.

Born and raised in the hills of Meru County, Alfred’s journey began in simplicity but not without vision. From an early age, he carried an unusual sense of purpose, often finding himself drawn more to solving problems in his community than following traditional expectations. This spirit of innovation and determination laid the foundation for a lifetime of building, businesses, ideas, and most importantly, people.

After high school, Alfred launched a successful grocery kiosk in Kwa Makara, setting the stage for a lifetime of enterprise. At Moi University, he scaled multiple campus-based ventures and graduated already running five mobile accessories stores and a sales van across towns.

In the early 2000s, Alfred ventured into agribusiness with nothing but vision, faith, and a few borrowed resources. His entrepreneurial spirit led to the founding of Snowline Enterprises—a bold idea that would grow into a major economic engine in Timau and beyond.

By 2013, the construction of Snowline facilities in Timau was underway, a major milestone that marked the beginning of Alfred’s dream to create sustainable, scalable agribusiness solutions in rural Kenya.

What followed was a period of innovation and expansion. Snowline Farms began producing high-quality eggs, quickly gaining trust for their hygiene, packaging, and consistency. Venturing further into the service industry, Alfred established Snowline Bar and Restaurant in Meru Town, combining hospitality and community in a vibrant urban space.

But the vision was never just business, it was empowerment. With that spirit, Snowline Hatcheries was launched to help farmers access affordable, healthy chicks—unlocking income potential across entire counties. As time passed, Alfred’s ideas evolved beyond just product lines. He introduced The Black Jungle, a bold, Afrocentric brand celebrating African identity through food, fashion, and creative storytelling. It quickly became a symbol of pride, passion, and purpose among youth and creatives.

Through all this, Alfred remained grounded, known not just as a businessman but as “Alfred the Farmer,” always present in the field, always listening to people, and always chasing a bigger vision. In recent years, his journey has led him to build The Igati Creative and Innovators Community, an NGO rooted in faith, community empowerment, agribusiness, and social entrepreneurship. Igati is the heartbeat of Alfred’s legacy—a place where people come not just to be helped but to be ignited. Today, Alfred continues to mentor youth, support startups, and design community-driven solutions that tackle poverty, unemployment, and underdevelopment. His work through Igati is planting seeds for generations to come, seeds of courage, innovation, and faith.
